about

The performance has no audience, everyone participates: 20 native speakers of Norwegian and 20 of Russian learn russenorsk and interact with each other on zoom. Russenorsk, also known as Moja på tvoja, is a pidgin, a mixed and phonetically simplified language spoken for over a century on the border between Norway and Russia. The performance problematizes the impossibility of interpreting phenomena such as the danger of holding divergent views—or the peaceful intentions of a country that trades weapons worldwide.

"Girls on the Bridge/ Pikene på Broen" is a collective of curators and managers based in the northeastern Norwegian town of Kirkenes. Situated 15 km from the Russian border and 50 km from the Finnish border, Kirkenes is ideally positioned for cross-border cooperation and cultural exchange. Founded in 1996, Pikene på Broen has spent the last 20 years implementing major and minor cultural projects that open up new perspectives in the North and initiate discussions on topics relevant to the Barents region.

This project is a cooperation of Pikene på Broen and the "Resistance Theatre"
