Online labs where participants discuss decoloniality and envision the future
Three curators organized three weekend online labs, where, together with participants, they discussed decoloniality in simple terms, its manifestations in the post-Soviet context, and what can be done about it. On Saturdays, they conducted discussions on key topics, concepts, and texts on decoloniality, while Sundays featured workshops in small groups, envisioning the future(s) through speculative design practices. At the end, participants shared their mini-projects. Selection of participants was done through an open call.
"Speculative design explores various hypothetical 'what if' scenarios, attempting to project hypotheses and questions onto the future. Speculations are rooted in imagination — the literal ability to envision other worlds and alternatives. We find it useful to employ speculative design as a tool for our workshop, as currently it seems impossible to even imagine tomorrow. If we do not envision this future, we will once again become ensnared in narratives of the past."
